Proportions

Use the following chart to create proportions and answer the questions.





1. How many cups of mix would it take to make 50 pancakes? Show the proportion on your comment.


2. How many cups of water would it take to make 20 pancakes? Show the proportion on your comment.


**Challenge** How many pancakes did I make if I used exactly 4 cups of water?

    6:1=50:x CROSS MULTIPLY AND GET

    50 = 6x X=
    - - DIVIDE 6 BY 50
    AND GET 8 AND 2 6THS
    6 6 THEN REDUCE AND YOUR ANSWER IT IS 8 AND 1 THIRD

    FIRST YOU DO 6(OVER) 3 FOURTHS = 20(OVER)X
    CROSS MULTIPLY AND GET 6x = 15
    - -
    6 6 SOLVE THAT AND GET X = 15 CUPS TO MAKE
    20 PANCAKES

    x=5.5cups to make 50 pancakes

    2.3/18=x/20=3.3cups of water

    3.1.5/12/4/x=32 pancakes

    On your answer to question #2 you did set up the proportion correctly, however, you needed to divide both sides of the equation by 6 to keep a balance. 6x/6 would give you X by itself and 15/6 would have given you 2 1/2 cups of water!

    Good job on the proportion though!
